Morning the Loss of a Loved One

It's like everyone is moving and you're standing still.

It's like walking in the sun with just one cloud raining on top of your head.

It's like breathing and not taking in air.

It's like trying to get up from a fall only to find yourself unable to ever get your balance.

It’s hurt. It’s pain. It’s loss.

The thing about death that stings so much is its finality. That's it. Done. No more on this earth. It is the best reminder that nothing on this earth lasts forever, and not just that, but we have no control over the lives we so desperately love. Our love is not enough to keep them here.

So we are left with the reminder of that, still here on earth. Knowing the fate that awaits us all.

And then there is the rollercoaster of emotions.

Fear
Anger
Hope
Faith
Love
Loneliness
Weakness
Strength

The list goes on . . . . .

Navigating through a season of mourning is so unpredictable. Just when you think the cloud has lifted it comes back stronger. Winds whipping, rain stinging as it smacks your skin. You can't see your way. How you will ever get out?

You need an anchor. Because you don't know when the winds will subside and the thunder will silence. You're just there, cold and wet and crying and in pain.

All of which you want to end. But it has not yet. So while in the storm you need an anchor. Did I mention that? You may stumble but you will not fall overboard.

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” (Hebrews 6:19 NIV)

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18 NIV)

“though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.” – (Psalm 37:24 NIV)

You have an Anchor, He is close. He is holding your hand. He will not let you fall. He is the Lord your God.
