Change Your Life with these 5 Prayers

Change Your Life with these 5 Prayers

The Bible has a lot to say about prayer because prayer grants us so much power. There are specific prayers over my life that have had a tremendous impact, and I want to share what those prayers are with you today. Enjoy!

Prayer is the way that we communicate with God, and He not only hears us, but He responds to us. Through prayer, we can access healing, wisdom, discernment, peace, protection, joy, and so much power we could never experience on our own. It is through prayer that I have seen the transforming power of God come into my heart and life like never before. So I want to share with you some prayers that can drastically change and impact your life for the better. And then we will pray over these areas together so that you can start experiencing the benefit of powerful prayer today.

1. Prayer over your mind

The first prayer is over your mind. If you ever want a sneak peek into the direction that your day or week is headed, just look at your thoughts. What you are thinking has the power to direct the course of your entire day. Starting with positive and truthful thoughts can lead to a peaceful and fulfilling day. However, negative thoughts can lead to not being aligned with God's truth and can lead to confusion and frustration.

This is why God wants us to keep our thoughts on good things. Philippians 4:8 tells us:

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬)‬‬

If changing our thoughts from negative to positive can change our day from good to bad, they also have the power to direct the course of our lives.

Now that is serious which is why the Bible also instructs us in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. Now this may seem easier said than done because it is. But our thought life is something that we can pray about. A constant prayer of mine is that my thoughts will align with God's truth, that he will reveal and uproot any lies in my mind, and replace them with good and truthful thoughts.

It's hard work sometimes, but the reward is a peaceful and fruitful life, which is well worth the process. Let's pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that we have the power to change our mind and control our thoughts. Lord, we submit our thoughts to You today. God, we surrender and give to You all the bad and negative thoughts, God, and we receive all the uplifting and positive and praiseworthy thoughts, God, that you give to us. We pray, God to remember and think about good things, God. When we recognize when we're praying that we're thinking on things that are not of You, please help us to redirect our thoughts, uproot any lies that may be in our mind, and plant Your seeds of truth. In Jesus Christ name, we pray, Amen.

2. Prayer for Discernment

The next prayer that can drastically change your life is a prayer for discernment. Now, more than ever, it seems like we have so many options before us: which school to go to, which job to take, which church to attend, and some decisions are even harder. Should we get married? Should I accept this job opportunity that requires my entire family to move? Should I elect to have this surgery?

Having options and the freedom to make our own decisions is a wonderful privilege, but it also may lead to the stress and anxiety of wondering if we're making the right decisions.  Good for us, our Heavenly Father is ready and willing to guide and direct our steps and provide us with His wisdom and discernment to make decisions. James 1:5 says:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

We can blindly make decisions without seeking God, but why not seek God who knows the beginning from the end? As we seek God in prayer, He can make our paths clear and grant us understanding.

I start each day praying for wisdom and discernment, and have reaped the benefits of being led by God in all areas of my life because of it. So let's pray together for discernment.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that we have Your Holy Spirit in us, leading and guiding us. We pray for Your understanding. We pray for Your discernment. We pray for Your knowledge and wisdom and all the decisions that we have to make today. We trust that Your guidance and Your direction will always lead us in the right way. In Jesus Christ's name, we pray, Amen.

3. Prayer for Surrender

The next prayer that can drastically change your life is the prayer for the strength to surrender to God's will and desire for your life.

Jesus offers us life and life to the fullest that we read about in John chapter 10, verse 10, but we will never experience that full life if we don't allow God to have complete control of our lives and hearts. The challenge here is that we have this battle between our sinful flesh and our new spirit that God has given us upon salvation.

As I'm sure you know, the level of power that it takes to follow God and not our flesh can sometimes feel impossible. So my prayer to God is for strength to surrender to His will and not mine. I pray for His strength to do it because my strength will fail me. Jesus makes this struggle clear to us in Matthew 26:41 when he says:

“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26‬:‭41‬ ‭NKJV‬)

Even when we are weary and weak, the Lord is willing and ready to grant us His strength to surrender to the things we think we cannot do or be. So allow this next prayer to be our heart's desire.

Dear Heavenly Father, Your ways are higher than my ways. Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts. When I find myself at odds and in struggle with Your will, Father God, I pray that through Your supernatural grace and divine power, You grant me the strength to overcome. I pray that Your spirit in me overcomes the temptation of my flesh. Father God, I pray I always choose You and Your ways. I pray, Lord, for the strength to surrender to Your good and precious will. In Jesus Christ's name I pray, amen.

4. Prayer for Relationships

The next prayer that can drastically change your life is to pray for your relationships. The tricky thing about relationships is that you can’t control other people, but God has the power to move the hearts of people. Proverbs 21:1 says:

“The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.” (Probers 21:1 ESV)

I can't change someone's heart with whom I'm in a relationship with, but God can. So, that means I can trust God with that person. I can pray for them and release them and take the pressure off of myself and them by trying to manipulate things in a relationship that I don't have control over. I'm not saying that we use prayer as a way to try to manipulate and control people because that's not how God operates. Our prayers should always be in alignment with God's will, even when we're praying for other people. Our hearts should be pure in prayer, not for our own selfish desires, but for God's overall will for ourselves and for others that we are in relationships with. So like anything else that we're praying for, our heart's desire should be Your will, not mine, Lord. We can trust that God can help not only our relationship, but even the person of the heart we're in relationship with.

Whether that be to move their heart in the direction of His will, to soften their hearts, or to convict their heart of any wrongdoing that is offensive to God. We just have to remember we can't do it on our own. Ask me how I know. There have been so many times when I've been trying to change somebody, and then when I finally just release that person to God, everything just works out, and it's almost like God was just waiting for me to trust Him with that person. In certain circumstances, we can trust Him with ourselves sometimes, but one of the hardest ways to trust God is with another person because we know that they have free will and they don't have to choose God's way. But we serve a God who can work all things out for our good and His glory even with other people, and even in our relationship with other people. Let us pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for the relationships You have entrusted me with. I pray You bless my heart and their heart Lord to truly be in alignment with Your will and purpose for our lives. I pray that our relationship gives You glory God and that You help us to treat and love each other the way that you've called us to in Your scriptures. In Jesus Christ's name, we pray, amen.

5. Prayer for a Clean Heart

The next prayer to change your life is to pray for a clean heart. David was known to be a man after God’s own heart. So even in his failures, you see a desire to make things right with God. And that is what God is looking for in us; a heart that He can shape and work with. A heart that He can mold.

After David committed adultery and murder, he came to God in repentance, and in Psalm 51:10, he wrote:

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10 ESV)

It was David's desires that led him into sin, but instead of saying, "Well, that's who I am, I can never change," he asked God to change him by creating a clean heart in him. What he meant was help me to desire what is right. Because the desires of our heart are what will lead us to be in God’s will or lead us astray. Too often, we give too much power to our feelings and let our feelings and desire lead us instead of God. If we feel something, we just think well, I got to follow through with that feeling. No, you don't. Ask God to change your heart. The Bible tells us:

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” (Proverbs 4:23 NLT)

Just like God can change someone else's heart when we talked about relationships, God can change your heart also.

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray for a heart that pleases You. I pray that my desires and the meditation of my mind are in alignment with Your will and purpose for my life. If my heart's desires ever get off track from yours Lord, I pray that You would graciously with mercy, move my heart back to You. In Jesus' Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.

BONUS: Prayer for Salvation

One more prayer that will drastically change your life is the prayer of salvation. Much of what we've learned when it comes to experiencing the power of prayer is dependent on our connection with God and having his Holy Spirit indwelling within us.

If you don't know Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, the best prayer you can pray today is the prayer of salvation. To accept Him into your heart and life, that you may receive forgiveness and His Holy Spirit. An eternal connection and relationship with Him.

Following Christ has been the best decision of my life. It has not made life easy, but it's made it sweet, fruitful

Lord Jesus Christ, I am so sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life. I ask Your forgiveness and now turn from everything which I know is wrong. Thank you for dying on the cross for me to set me free from my sins.

Please come into my life and fill me with your Holy Spirit and be with me forever. Thank you, Lord Jesus. In Jesus Christ’s name, we pray, Amen.
