7 Signs God Is Showing You His Love

7 Signs God Is Showing You His Love

God is love. Jesus loves you. Love wins. All these cliches sound good, but they do not impact our lives unless we believe that God loves us and then act like we are, in fact, loved by God. Our challenge is we don’t always feel that God loves us. In this week's video, learn 7 signs that God is showing you His unfailing, everlasting, and faithful love. Enjoy!

1 John 4:19 tells us: “We love because he first loved us.” ( ESV) We can’t love God, others, or even ourselves unless we first come to the realization that God loves us. We can read that God loves us in the Bible, but we are impacted by His love as we experience His love for ourselves in our lives. So how do we both know and experience God’s love? Well, first, we have to realize that God is showing us His love every single day. So here are 7 ways God is showing You His love.

1. You Feel Unsatisfied

First, you feel unsatisfied. You know that feeling like something is missing or what life has to offer is not enough? Yeah, that’s God showing you His love. Wait, what? Yes, a deep longing for more in life is God showing you His love, as He is not allowing the things of this world to fill you so that He can fill your soul like only He can. The Bible tells us not to love the world, because God knows there is nothing this world can offer better than Himself.

It’s the same reason why I don’t feed my kids candy for dinner. Those empty calories won’t give them the nutrients and energy they need to flourish and grow. It’s not that I want my kids to have boring dinners, but that I want them to have food that sustains them. Yeah, candy tastes good, but what is that worth if you’re sick? In the same way, God loves us too much to give us things that are not good for us. So what is the best for us? Himself. So He removes all the empty calories from our lives so He can truly nourish our souls like only He can.

2. You’ve received the gift of salvation

This leads to the second way God shows His love, by the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, so that we may have a relationship with God. John 15:13 says:

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” (‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭13‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

This gift of love holds so much value. One, God considers us worth the sacrifice. How many people do you know that would actually lay their life down for you? Some people won’t even let us have a bite of their food or help us move out of our apartment, but God gave His Son so that we could know with Him.

3. He Wants to Spend Time With You (God is leading you to spend time with Him)

Third, God is leading you to spend more time with Him. When you love someone, you want to spend all the time in the world with them. As my husband and I fell in love in college, we would spend so much time together and spend countless hours on the phone when we were apart. Throughout the scriptures, we see God’s call to just be with Him, to come to Him, to abide in Him. That sense you have to wake up and pray, go to Church, or enter worship is God leading you to spend time with Him because He loves you.

4. He disciplines you (You’re in a pruning season)

Ok, this is a hard one, but God shows His love for you by disciplining you. It doesn’t feel much like love at the time, but it is. Now I’m not talking about a heartless punishment, but discipline, as to correct, guide, and lead in the right direction. Hebrews 12:6-7 says:

“For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,  and chastises every son whom he receives.” It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? (Hebrews 12:6-7 ESV)

God’s discipline is His accepting us as His children. His conviction is Him leading us to safety. In Ephesians 6:4, parents are called not to provoke their children, but to raise them in the discipline of the Lord. As God leads us in His direction, that means He will lead us away from things that are not of Him because that’s what loving fathers do who care about their children. He does this not to simply take from our lives, but to add to our lives.

It takes spiritual maturity to receive God’s love this way, but it is Him loving us nonetheless. Jonah 2:8 says:

“Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them.” (Jonah 2:8 NIV)

God is taking the idols out of your life not because He’s mad, but because He loves you too much to let you waste your life traveling an empty path headed nowhere.

5. God is leading you to rest

The next way that we know God is showing us His love is that He leads us to rest. We may see rest as punishment, but rest is actually a gift from God who loves us. Where the world requires more and more of us until we’re empty, God shows His love by giving us rest and restoring our strength. Psalm 127:2 says:

“It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil;  for he gives to his beloved sleep.” (Psalm 127:2 ESV)

As we trust God, we don’t have to anxiously strive or follow our hustle culture leading us to work to no end. The writer of Psalm 23 describes God as a shepherd who leads His sheep beside still water to restore, not ask for more. God shows His patient love to us not by rushing our souls, but by restoring our souls.

6. He reminds you of His Word

God shows us His love for us when He reminds us of His Word. Not only does God give us His Word, but He writes it on our hearts. This act of love ensures we always have His truth to cover, lead, and guide us. The Word of God is called the bread of life because it feeds our souls. Jesus said:

“But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”” (Matthew 4:4 ESV)

Not only does God’s Word protect us like a sword (Ephesians 6:17), it is God’s very own love letter to us, describing the extent He went to be with us.

Often times, when we’re going through something or need guidance, God will place a scripture or verse on our hearts to help us along the way. That’s Him speaking to us and loving us so much that He gives us the word we need right when we need it.

7. He gave us His Holy Spirit

Next, God shows us His love by giving us His Holy Spirit. We know that God gave His Son, Jesus Christ, so we could be cleansed of our sins and In relationship with Him. But He also gives us His Holy Spirit so that He can always be with us. Luke 11:13 says:

“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:13 ESV)

Giving and receiving gifts is a sign of love. Many men will give an engagement ring to the woman that they love, a sign that they want to be with this woman forever. The Holy Spirit is a sign that we are God’s and He is ours.

The Holy Spirit is a good gift that God gives us so that He always dwells with us and also serves as His promise to be with us forever. This means we always have access to all the ways God loves us as the Holy Spirit guides us, reminds us of God’s Word, comforts us, and ensures that the Beloved of God are never alone.
