4 Trick Questions the Enemy Will Ask and How to Answer

The enemy's main tactic in any spiritual battle is to get us to believe a lie. But that doesn’t mean he will always blatantly come out and lie to us. That would be too obvious. Instead, he will use the power of suggestion by asking questions that compel us to believe a lie on our own, without him having to directly and outright lie to us. Still, the result is the same; we lose strength if we choose to believe even his suggested lies. So in today's video, I’m sharing with you 4 trick questions the enemy will ask you and how to correctly respond, so you can stand firm on the truth of God and experience victory in Christ.

1. Did God really say?

The first trick question the enemy will ask you is “Did God really say?” We see him ask this question to Eve in the garden of Eden.

 Just the fact that the enemy would question God’s Word reveals his attempt to get us not to believe God’s Word. Here we see his question is misleading. He’s implying that because Adam and Eve were not allowed to eat from the tree of knowledge, they were then somehow missing out. Instead of focusing on all that they had access to, this one question leads Eve to think God is limiting her instead of protecting her. The enemy is asking you the same type of question with the intent of getting you to think God is somehow holding back on you. Maybe it sounds like “Did God really tell you not to have sex before you get married?” “Did God really say walk in integrity at your job when everyone else does what they want?” “Did God really say express self- control when you’ve been wronged and want to go off?” The question “Did God really say?'' calls into question the character and wisdom of God. If we can’t believe God’s heart for us, we won’t believe His words to us. Don’t be deceived, Beloved. Our God is trustworthy and has our best interest at heart. No question about it.

2. Is God mad at you?

When we face trials and challenges, the enemy’s go-to trick question will be “Is God mad at you?” There are many assumptions he wants you to believe with this question that are all untrue. He wants you to think God is punishing you and that God is against you. Whether you did anything wrong or not, the enemy wants to put space between you and God, and he knows that you can’t sincerely draw close to someone who you think is mad at you. The truth is, when we face suffering in this world, that’s when we need God the most. We don’t need to question if He’s mad at us. It's hard to overcome this trick question in the face of pain, because we know God is all powerful, so why would he allow this to happen if he wasn’t mad. What we have to realize, however, is that just because God allows something, doesn’t mean he takes pleasure in it. He did not take pleasure in His only Son’s sacrifice on the cross, yet He allowed it for a greater purpose. God does not take your pain and suffering lightly. He is a loving God and this question “Is God mad at you?” attempts to get you to question God’s heart for you. No matter what, the truth is God is for those who place their faith in Him. With this trick question, the enemy means to distance us from God when we need Him most, but Romans 8:32 makes it clear that there is nothing that can separate us from His love.

3. Who do you think you are?

The third trick question the enemy will ask you is “Who do you think you are?” He will ask this question when things are well in your life and God is blessing you, to get you to question if you deserve this blessing or not. The truth is, we don’t deserve anything but this is not about us. The question “Who do you think you are?” aims to get our focus off God who can and will bless as He pleases and sees fit for His plan and glory. But the enemy doesn’t want us focused on God so he’ll turn the attention to ourselves. Whether this results in pride or self pity, the result is still the same: too much focus on ourselves that needs to be focused on God. Whether we are good enough doesn’t matter. God often calls unlikely ordinary people to extraordinary blessings. Moses was a murderer and had a speech challenge, but God called him to lead the Israelites out of Egyptian slavery. When God first called Moses at the burning bush, Moses had every reason why he could not do what God was asking, but this was not about Moses. It was about God. Don’t allow the enemy to plant seeds of doubt that take your focus off God. It doesn’t matter how weak or unqualified we are. If God wants to use us, then surely He will do it.

4. Doesn’t the Bible say?

The fourth trick question the enemy will ask is “Doesn’t the Bible say?” The enemy knows God’s Word, not because he desires to live it out, but to misuse it for his evil schemes and plans. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, the enemy misused the word of God to try to trick Jesus and with each temptation, Jesus conquered the enemy’s attack, not just with the Word of God, but with the correct interpretation and application of God’s word. The enemy is cunning and he will use God’s truth to get us to believe a lie. We see throughout history how the very words of God have been misused to enact and justify pain, suffering, and evil. As believers, we must know God’s Word and how to properly apply it, or we will fall victim to the scheme of the enemy. I need you to know this is not too hard for you. You can learn God’s Word and understand His truth to protect yourself from the lies of the enemy. If we are willing to study and acquaint ourselves with the Bible, God will make His truth clear to us, so we won’t be tricked and deceived by the evil one. Proverbs 30:5 tells us:

The enemy can misuse the Bible all he wants, but God’s word will not come back to Him void. As the enemy attacks with lies, we must take up our sword of the spirit which is the Word of God and fight back in truth.

When the enemy asks “Did God really say?,” our response should be to trust in the good heart and character of our Father.

When the enemy asks “Is God mad at you?,” our response should be “I am beloved of the Lord. God will move heaven and earth to rescue me.”

When the enemy asks “Who do you think you are?,” respond by telling Him who your God is.

When the enemy asks “Doesn't the Bible say?,” let him know that God’s word is true and is His love letter to us, not to tear us down but to build us up. And it’s the truth of God’s Word that speaks to the enemies certain demise and our certain victory.

For every question the enemy throws our way, God has an answer. Let Him answer for you.
