“…A double minded man is unstable in all his ways”….James 1:8 ESV
Flip floppers—also known as those who are indecisive or double minded. Typically we don’t like dealing with them because of the confusion and stress their constantly shifting opinions cause us to experience. Yet, has there ever been a time when you were the offending individual? On more than one occasion I’ve found myself in this position.
Over time I’ve come to understand that a double mind may be the result of a divided, impure heart. (James 1:7-8; James 4:8) It may be that our heart is torn between God and the world. (Matthew 5:37). When we’re having trouble deciding between “yes” and “no”, chances are the answer is a “No”! Decisions for God often resonate in our spirits as an “AMEN”, or a YES. We don’t question despite the presence of obstacles, it’s easy to make that choice.
If we’re struggling to decide between yes or no, we can look to God and find the wisdom we need to come to a solid conclusion. He will be always faithful to show us the way.
Father unite my heart to fear Your name (Psalm 86:12) that I may learn to obey You in everything and to walk in Your ways. Please grant me singleness of heart and mind (II Chronicles 30:12) that I may be devoted to You above all else. Purify and cleanse my heart so that I may be single-minded in pursuit of You, no longer operating out of a double mind. I’m asking for Your wisdom in making decisions in my life and I am trusting that You will answer (James 1:5-8). May my every decision be motivated by love. In Jesus name, I ask all this, Amen.
