An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. – Proverbs 18:15 ESV
Learning is a lifelong process. No matter where we are right now there’s a next waiting. If I take uninformed perspectives and unhealthy habits with me, what’s next in my life becomes more dysfunction, and I become more discouraged. However, the next minute can bring my next lesson on how to break free; but my ears must be open for knowledge. The beloved Maya Angelou inspired the masses with her poetic wisdom. Here’s one of my favorites: “When you know better, do better.”
The words are hers, but if we listen with redemptive ears, the principle points us to Christ. Because when we know Him, we don’t just know better, we know God. His truth frees us from dysfunction, and His grace gives us a better understanding of who He desires us to be. Sometimes my knees knock when I consider my next steps in Him. But knowing His Spirit lives in me helps me to trust Him with each step. Then I can believe and receive His better for me.
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your Abiding Presence. You know my now and my next. Your call for me to grow may feel uncomfortable, but Your truth is unyielding. Please help me to know better and do better. In Jesus’s Name. Amen.
Consider a circumstance you’re facing. How would knowing God better, help you do better?
