Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. – 1 Peter 5:8-9 NIV
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT
Distractions are the enemy’s biggest attack on your life. God has a plan for you, but if the enemy can get you to take your eyes off God, then your feet will soon follow.
We may think distractions will be obvious to us, but many times they aren’t. A little flirting here, some gossip there—no big deal, right? Some distractions are even more subtle. Social media, Netflix, and video games in and of themselves are not sinful. But they can become distractions. When we’re distracted and don’t even realize it, we’re in a dangerous place.
This is why 1 Peter 5:8 tells us to be “of sober mind.” Keeping your mind on God and his Word will keep you from distractions. The sole purpose of the enemy’s distractions is to get your eyes off your source of strength, which is Christ. When you are weak, the enemy attacks.
So how do we keep ourselves from becoming distracted? We keep our focus on God.
PRAY
Heavenly Father, thank you for the strength you provide to live the life you’ve called me to. I pray for focus and a sober mind so I won’t get distracted. In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray. Amen.
