Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. – Psalm 119:105 NIV
We can strive so hard for what we think our purpose in life is, and still end up missing it. We can get so busy trying to find our purpose that we become overwhelmed by doubt, worry, and negative thinking. God reminds us that our purpose in life is not to get that promotion on the job, to get a bigger home, to have the most profitable business, to get the best grades, or even to maintain perfect relationships.
God is our purpose. We focus on ten things going on in our life when God only wants us to follow him. Life is not as complicated as we make it. When we realize this, a heavy burden is lifted off our shoulders. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” God’s Word tells us how to follow him through the life of Christ. By doing so, we have a clearer vision for our purpose (path) in life. And that path leads straight to God.
Now, I know you may be wondering, “OK, but what about my dreams, goals, and aspirations?” I’m not saying you should lock yourself in a closet and pray for the rest of your life. That’s not fruitful. God knows your dreams and passions. He’s the one who placed them on your heart. Since they come from him, it’s only reasonable that we would accomplish them by seeking him.
Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Never forget: your purpose is God.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for ordering my steps and giving me your Word as a light for my path. In all I do, please give me the grace, courage, and strength to follow your will and nothing else. In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray. Amen.
How do you see God ordering your steps in this season of your life?
